Joys of January 2025

Joys in January

‘Lang May Yer Lum Reek’ and a jolly good health to you for 2025

What might your joy be in January? What makes your heart sing?

I find my joy on Sunday mornings at 8am in a freezing cold lake in Shepperton. Read my excerpt on Open Water Swimming at the end of this newsletter or click the button below for the full version.

2025 & Brain-Based Balance

2025 is my year of business and personal investment in Z-Health Performance Solutions. I am enrolled in a fully certified advanced brain-based training program,  bringing you the very best in a neuroscience approach to helping you get out of pain, improve posture, balance and performance. It’s BIG and requires many hours of studying, learning and practicing (on some of you wonderful souls who are forever willing to help me figure this stuff out, thank you).

Yes, the balance workshops are progressing and I will keep you posted on when you can book your spot on the introduction to ‘Fall Prevention and Fall Preparation’ in-person workshops. Interested? If you haven’t already do sign up to hear more and be the first to book your space.

Visual Drills…Pencil Pushups

You may be thinking, what’s the point of visual training? Why are you asking me to follow a pen tip with my eyes? What difference does this make to my stiff hip, aching shoulder etc?

Each eye has 6 extra ocular muscles that directly affect flexion and extension in the body and of course move your eyes around. Think of these muscles as you would your hamstrings or glutes and what might happen if under used or if they have developed compensatory patterns due to old injuries and postural habits. You would do something to address the discomfort, pain or dysfunction..Yes? Well why not your extra ocular muscles?

I think I’ve found my next  Substack topic!

I invite you to try the visual training drill Pencil Pushups by following Dr Cobb’s video below..approx 6mins. I hope you find it engaging and insightful.

‘Swimmingly Blissful’

I’ve just published my latest Substack on the physiological and psychological benefits of Open Water Swimming. Including some stats on why women in particular are more predisposed to perhaps the endurance required for cold water immersion. Please click on the pink button below to read the full version.

I began my open water swimming journey with Shepperton Open Water Swim towards the end of September last year and I haven’t stopped! New Year’s Eve the temperature in the winter lake was recorded 5.7 degrees, that was the coldest I had ever swum in and it was glorious. Until Sunday 12th January see picture above. The air temperature was -3 degrees before breaking the ice to get into the lake. I loved it!!

Thank you for taking time to read my offerings and hopefully click on my latest Substack.

With Joy & Love
