You ARE Your Brain: The new science of Hope

‘Learn more about applied neuroscience – a brain-based approach to training, balance & pain’

It’s been a wee while since I’ve been in touch but since last time I have been busy studying and implementing an incredible new brain-based training to my practice. To avoid any confusion I am still very much here for you with my hands on therapy, manipulating and reshaping your fascial tissue. The bonus is that I have been delving into a deeper understanding of the connection between our body and our brain. Applied neuroscience is such a vast area to comprehend and to be honest, at times I have found it hugely overwhelming (see my artwork below…that’s me!). Luckily, the researcher in me can’t stop feeling excited about this new area of learning and I can’t wait to share it with you. Why am I studying this branch of movement and posture therapy? So you can be brilliant, move with ease, be pain free, reduce your risk of falling and reduce the risk of damage if you do by being prepared.

What is Neuroplasticity?

Welcome to the world of neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. This means that with the right strategies, we can influence our brain’s structure and function, leading to improved cognitive abilities, emotional resilience, and physical coordination at any age. You’ve heard the term “use it or lose it” this is a direct reference to the brain’s ability to plasticise. The same phrase can be used in reference to movement and our fascia, our biggest sensory organ of the body.

Simply put – you’re not done yet, neuroplasticity tells us that we can get better.

What is a brain-based approach to balance & movement?

I am training with a company called Z-Health Performance Solutions. Z-Health is a brain-based training system that is built on applied neuroscience. It is a fascinating field that is challenging, exciting and incredibly rewarding.

A neurology brain-based approach to movement and balance focuses on understanding and enhancing how the brain controls and coordinates movement. This approach integrates principles from neuroscience and neurology to address movement and balance issues.

Workshops coming soon….

Combining neuroplasticity, motor control, sensory integration and functional movement training I am currently designing a series of workshops on fall preparation and prevention.  Introductory workshops will run for 3hrs for a maximum of 4 people on Saturday afternoons or Sunday mornings.

Thank you for reading my update. I hope to see you soon in clinic for massage, movement and if you want to try some applied neuroscience brain-based training we can do that too.

Book of the month…

Thank you to a wonderful client for introducing me to this unbelievably insightful book. The lost art of how to breathe for optimal health in both body and brain. Isn’t   synchronicity amazing? This book is so relevant to my life and my practice right now. I have bought 3 books and given them all away! I am now listening to the audio version. If there is one takeaway, it is that we breathe too much through our mouths. Try not doing it, just breathe through your nose? Tough huh? Read or listen to find out why our adaptive mouth breathing is so detrimental to achieving optimal health.
